Stealing Isn’t Cool

I originally posted this at around midnight and I was distraught with my anxiety going way up. So feeling a bit hurt and confused, I took it down. As I stated in the previous posts, someone as anon on tumblr (Who Frani thinks is the culprit) sent me a link to a blog post that was word for word a post that I had posted almost 2 years ago. Thanks to the help of Coolbeans (who truly is some coolbeans) I put the copyright claim up all over my blog, and I searched through their blog with a fine comb. I literally went through every blog post and googled little phrases here and there. I tried to contact everyone who the person stole from. One of the people that had their content stolen was S&S  (skinnyandsingle) and she is 10x braver than me because she went at this person with full force! Here is the link to the work that was taken from me.

I originally didn’t want to post the URL because I didn’t want their page to get any more traffic. But here are some of the links I found so that people know. It’s not fair to see something you worked on somewhere else without the proper credit given. I get inspired by people all the time and always link back to the original source, even if I don’t physically have the link I always say that I saw it on tumblr or something along those lines. Anyway here are some links:

There is probably more but you get the idea. The person has a wordpress as well, link here, but I do not know if any of the content is stolen. I haven’t searched through it. There is also another blog I came across while doing my investigative google work thats here. I haven’t gone through this either. If you’re worried if this person has stolen from you then you should search through that blog. Like my mother always says, THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS!

  1. cyborgsweta stole one of my posts – nice to have my work out there, but prefer it be credited to me. That said, thieves are not going to get famous for something they didn’t pen – hard to replicate the skill and voice of another.

  2. Hey! Thank you so so much for notifying me (and others) about this theft. I would never have known about it if it were not for you. I looked at their post, and it was word-for-word. Even the pictures I used were the same!
Big shout out to you, Online Arrow (because you sought out justice for everyone)!

    1. I was just so livid when I saw my own work stolen, then my anxiety / detective skills took over, and I saw that this person took content from other bloggers as well! I hope eventually more people will see this and the blog will get shut down.

  3. I invite everyone to look at my blog and see how I document photos that are not of my own making. I make a real effort to use pix with a creative commons license (from Flikr, etc.). I keep a spreadsheet to create the caption language, linking to the photo. I also send the photographer a note stating I used his/her photo. It sometimes takes me longer to find the photos and document them than it does to write the text! Plagiarism is easier than ever with the internet at your fingertips. Thanks for being diligent about reporting this. I am sorry you were ripped off. Thanks to everyone who is policing this issue.

  4. That sucks! Blogging is scary because of this. Yes, we love for our writing to be seen, but like someone said already, we deserve to be able to take credit for our mind, words, and hard work. It’s not even about fame or anything, for me it’s about identity. Like writing is a part of our identity, and is produced from our identity. And for someone to take it as their own, it makes you feel stripped apart.
